Ansar, VDP deployed in 11 border districts to prevent push-ins

Bangladesh has deployed Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) members in 11 border districts to strengthen border surveillance, enhance security and help prevent cross-border crimes.
The deployment was announced in a press release issued on Monday by Mohammad Ashiquzzaman, Deputy Director (Public Relations) of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.
According to the statement, the move is being carried out under a memorandum of understanding signed between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party in 2025. The initiative aims to improve coordination and effectiveness in border management and security operations.
Ansar and VDP members are currently working alongside BGB personnel in border areas as part of efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and address security needs.
The districts covered under the deployment include Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Joypurhat, Jashore, Jhenidah, Satkhira, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Sylhet, Jamalpur and Khagrachhari.
The statement also noted that members of the Ansar Battalion have been kept on standby to respond quickly to emerging situations and provide additional manpower when required.

Officials said the involvement of Ansar and VDP personnel is helping strengthen the country's security framework, support BGB operations, increase border surveillance and contribute to preventing cross-border crimes while enhancing the safety of local communities.
