Bangladesh recorded five more dengue-related deaths and 1,920 new hospital admissions in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning, pushing this year’s death toll to 321 and total hospitalisations to 105,316, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS said the five fatalities comprised three men and two women, with two deaths reported in Chattogram Division and one each in Dhaka South City Corporation, Mymensingh and Rajshahi. Moreover, September remains the deadliest month so far, with 148 deaths, followed by 76 in the first 13 days of October.

Of the new patients, 241 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka South City Corporation and 170 under Dhaka North City Corporation, while a further 413 were hospitalised elsewhere in the Dhaka region. Chattogram registered 256 admissions, Khulna 254, Barishal 215, Rajshahi 170, Mymensingh 114, Rangpur 70 and Sylhet 17. Furthermore, 99,201 patients have recovered and been discharged since 1 January.

Notably, this year’s admissions have already surpassed the full-year totals recorded in both 2024 and 2025. Consequently, health authorities continue to urge the public to clear stagnant water, eliminate mosquito-breeding sites and seek prompt medical attention as soon as symptoms appear.
