Measles symptoms claim four more lives

Four more people have died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 1,332 new suspected cases were detected nationwide, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The figures appeared in the DGHS's regular health bulletin on Thursday afternoon, covering the period from 8 am on Wednesday to 8 am on Thursday. Of the newly identified suspected cases, 96 were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing, while 1,251 patients were admitted to hospital and 1,207 recovered and were discharged. Dhaka recorded the highest number of new suspected cases at 460, followed by Chattogram with 270, Sylhet with 232, Barishal with 136, Khulna with 112, Mymensingh with 61, Rangpur with 33 and Rajshahi with 28.

Since March 15, 2026, Bangladesh has recorded 201,625 suspected measles cases, including 22,116 laboratory-confirmed infections. The death toll among suspected cases has reached 1,040, including 104 confirmed measles deaths. Over the same period, 178,927 patients have been hospitalised, of whom 171,680 have recovered and been discharged.
