Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has affirmed that the government is committed to safeguarding equal rights, dignity, security and welfare for every citizen, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, social class or profession.

Addressing a high-level meeting with leading representatives and prominent figures of the Hindu and Buddhist communities at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat on Wednesday, he said the government's overriding aim was to build an inclusive Bangladesh in which neither religious identity nor social standing would impede anyone's access to fundamental rights and opportunities. He also assured the delegates that their legitimate demands and concerns would receive due consideration. During the meeting, Hindu community representatives expressed gratitude for the extension of the Durga Puja public holiday, with the government now declaring a five-day break from October 20 to 24. Representatives of both communities also raised a range of social issues and demands.
