PM-led ECNEC approves Tk 38.9bn for 10 projects

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), chaired by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman, on Tuesday approved 10 development projects involving a total estimated cost of Tk 38.90 billion.

The ECNEC meeting was held at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat at 10:00 am, where 12 new and revised projects were placed for consideration. Following scrutiny, the committee gave final approval to 10 projects, according to officials from the Planning Ministry.

The approved projects include the first phase of the Barishal Irrigation Project rehabilitation and maintenance programme, construction of Integrated Upazila Land Complexes, and the development of Mymensingh City Corporation's administrative building.

Other projects approved at the meeting are the upgrading of the Anwara-Banshkhali-Toitong-Pekua-Badarkhali-Chakaria regional highway, improvement of circuit houses in 33 districts, along with the installation of a lift at the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner's office, and the second phase of the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute expansion project.

The ECNEC also endorsed the second phase of the Cancer Centre construction project at Dhaka CMH, the Madrasa Education Management and Information System (MEMIS) Support Project, the installation of multimedia classrooms in 653 madrasas, and a project aimed at enhancing the capacity of existing grid substations and transmission lines.

The Planning Ministry said the bulk of the financing for the approved projects would come from the government's own resources, adding that emphasis would be placed on ensuring timely implementation.
