At least four people, including a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member, were killed and 15 others injured after two passenger buses lost control during an overtaking attempt and plunged into a roadside ditch in Lohagara, Chattogram, on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred in front of the Four Season Hotel in the Chunati Bonopukur area along the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway, temporarily disrupting traffic on the busy route.

The deceased were identified as Rehena Akter, wife of Badiul Alam of Patiya upazila; Naimul Islam Jihan, son of Chan Ali of Gopalpur in Jhenaidah Sadar; Naimul Islam, son of Anwar Hossain from the same area; and Monir Ahmed of Bhola district, who was a BGB member.

Witnesses said two passenger buses operated by Marsa Paribahan were trying to overtake each other when both drivers lost control, causing the vehicles to veer off the road and fall into a ditch. One of the buses later crashed into a tree, killing one passenger on the spot.

Three other critically injured passengers died after being taken to the hospital, while the remaining injured were admitted to local hospitals and other treatment centers.
