BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday said Bangladesh will prosper only if workers and farmers are well, as he addressed a massive May Day rally organized by the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in the capital’s Nayapaltan.
Speaking as chief guest at the rally in front of the BNP central office, he said the country’s economy had been “weakened by misrule in the past” and that the current government is working to restore stability and improve livelihoods.
Tarique Rahman said efforts are underway to reopen closed factories, attract investment, and create new job opportunities at home and abroad to address unemployment. He also said discussions are ongoing with investors to expand employment generation.

He added that the government is working on welfare measures for both farmers and workers, including loan relief for farmers and social support cards for workers’ families. Agricultural development projects, including irrigation and canal restoration, are also being implemented to boost production.
The BNP leader criticized the previous administration, accusing it of undermining workers’ rights and the economy, and said recent political changes have restored people’s ability to speak freely.
The rally was attended by senior BNP leaders and thousands of workers from across the country.
