Sayem makes Bangladesh proud as Lead Officer for MARAC in UK

A S M Sayem, a Bangladeshi-born, is making significant strides in the United Kingdom’s public sector, serving as a senior civil servant within the UK Ministry of Justice and holding key oversight responsibilities for public safety and safeguarding in North Kent.
In his current role as Lead Officer for the North Kent Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), Sayem manages high-risk safeguarding operations across major government entities.
His responsibilities involve leading cross-agency risk assessments and investigative reviews in collaboration with local authorities, the police service, NHS medical professionals and the fire service.
Sayem also heads the Domestic Violence Disclosure Service (DVDS), where he holds sole authorization to approve and monitor the lawful exchange of sensitive domestic abuse data between government departments to protect vulnerable individuals.
Sayem’s appointment to the UK Civil Service followed a rigorous selection process administered by the UK Civil Service Commission, following his higher education studies in London.
Born in Pangsha, Rajbari, Sayem spent his early years in Kushtia before residing in Dhaka and Mymensingh due to his father’s government career. He is the son of Engineer Mohammad Abul Kashem, a former senior official at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in Bangladesh, and the late Nasima Parvin.
He began his education at Kushtia Kolokakoli Kindergarten and later passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations at Kushtia Zilla School. He completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) at the College of Development Alternative (CODA) and studied Business Administration (BBA) at the University of Development Alternative (UODA) in Dhaka, before relocating to the United Kingdom to earn his degree from the University of Greenwich.
