Pritom Hasan and Shahtaj announce end of marriage

Bangladeshi singer Pritom Hasan and actress Shahtaj Munibara Hashem have announced the end of their decade-long marriage, saying they have chosen to pursue separate paths after careful reflection on differences in their mutual understanding.

In a joint statement posted on their verified Facebook pages on Sunday night, the couple expressed gratitude for the years they spent together and for the memories and experiences they shared, while stressing that their respect and best wishes for each other would endure. Moreover, they said the decision had not been made hastily; rather, it followed extensive discussions between them, as well as consultation with, and support from, their families. They added that divorce proceedings are currently under way.

As they embark on separate chapters, Pritom and Shahtaj urged friends, colleagues and the media to respect their privacy, personal space and emotions during this period of transition. Furthermore, they appealed for the matter to be handled with dignity and empathy.
