Four killed as bus hits car in Munshiganj

Four people, including the driver, were killed and another was critically injured on Saturday afternoon when a Chattogram-bound passenger bus collided with a private car near Jamaldi bus stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Gazaria, Munshiganj.

The crash occurred around 2:38 pm, and the victims were identified as Mojibur Rahman, 55, Shamima Akter, 45, Sabiha Chowdhury, 43, and the car's driver, Sohel, a resident of Dhaka's Gandaria area. According to the Fire Service, Sohel died at the scene, whereas the three others were declared dead after being taken to hospital. Meanwhile, the injured person was referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment in critical condition.

Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Muhammad Sofiqul Islam said the New Baleshwar bus collided with the private car, which was heading towards Dhaka after its occupants had dined at Miami Restaurant. Moreover, the vehicle was carrying five people, including the driver.

Two Fire Service units conducted the rescue operation. However, the precise cause of the accident remains unclear, and authorities said it would be determined through an investigation.
