At least seven people, including a child, were killed on Friday afternoon when a Rajib Paribahan bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Akua Bypass Road in Mymensingh city, leaving every occupant of the three-wheeler dead at the scene, according to police.
The collision occurred at around 1:15 pm in the Gandrapa area, when the bus, travelling from Jamalpur towards Dhaka, ploughed into the auto-rickshaw, which was heading towards Muktagacha. Consequently, the impact left the three-wheeler utterly mangled, and police and rescue teams rushed to the site to recover the bodies. Meanwhile, traffic on the bypass was disrupted for a considerable period.
Among the deceased were three women and one child, although police were initially unable to identify the victims. Moreover, authorities were investigating the circumstances of the crash, and the precise cause had not been independently established in the initial reports.

Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mohammad Shibirul Islam confirmed the fatalities and said further details would emerge as the investigation progressed. Nevertheless, the tragedy has once again highlighted the perils of head-on collisions on the country's highways, where speed and lax enforcement often prove a lethal combination.
