A case has been filed against Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former lawmaker Major (retd) Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman over allegations of obstructing government work, assaulting a security official, and creating disorder at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, following a confrontation over baggage delays and a shortage of trolleys.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh security officer Mohammad Shahriar Alam Sajib lodged the complaint with Airport Police Station on Friday. According to the case statement, passengers arriving from Madinah on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-338 on Thursday faced delays in collecting their luggage amid heavy passenger pressure. When Airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad went to the baggage area to defuse the situation, Akhtaruzzaman allegedly abused him, threatened to push him out, and issued threats of physical assault.

Moreover, the complaint alleges that he verbally abused and physically assaulted security supervisor Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin after the officer objected to video recording in a restricted area. Furthermore, he is accused of throwing passengers' Zamzam water bottles from a trolley and behaving aggressively towards a Biman representative.

Meanwhile, Airport Police Chief Kamrul Hasan Talukder said the matter was under investigation and that necessary legal action would follow its findings, although he did not indicate whether Akhtaruzzaman would be arrested. Separately, Biman has initiated disciplinary proceedings against two employees over alleged negligence that delayed the distribution of Zamzam water. Nevertheless, the allegations remain unproven, and Akhtaruzzaman's response has yet to be reported.
