Next one year declared as `Nazrul Year`

Prime Minister Tariq Rahman has declared the next one year as 'Nazrul Year' to mark the 127th birth anniversary of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. He announced that this declaration will remain effective from May 25, 2026 to May 25, 2027.

The Prime Minister made this announcement on Saturday (May 23) evening after attending a cultural program organized to celebrate the national poet's birth anniversary in Trishal Upazila, Mymensingh.

"We want to declare the upcoming year, from May 25, 2026, to May 25, 2027, as Nazrul Year," the Prime Minister said. "Beyond just an announcement, various initiatives will be taken to present Kazi Nazrul Islam more extensively to the new generation."

He added that to bring the life, literature, music, and spirit of the national poet closer to the youth, various Nazrul-related events will be organized in every district of the country over the next year. He expressed hope that through these initiatives, the younger generation will be able to know and understand the 'Rebel Poet' more deeply.

The Prime Minister emphasized, Kazi Nazrul Islam is our national poet.

This initiative is being taken so that the new generation can learn about his ideals, literature, and struggles.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Prime Minister inaugurated the re-excavation work of the 'Dharar Khal' (Dharar canal) in the Kanhor area of Bailor Union under Trishal Upazila. He later addressed a public rally organized on the occasion.
