BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that Bangladesh's education system was mismanaged for 17 years, cautioning that a nation which neglects education risks forfeiting its competitive edge on the global stage.
Speaking as chief guest at a reception for high-achieving SSC examinees at Keraniganj Mahila Degree College on Saturday, September 19, Rizvi contended that the importance of education had not been adequately recognised for a prolonged period. Consequently, irregularities and mismanagement at various levels of the system had, he alleged, adversely affected both students and the nation as a whole. Furthermore, he claimed that influential quarters had, on occasion, pressured the authorities to ensure that students passed their examinations.
Turning to the future, Rizvi maintained that students must be equipped with modern knowledge and skills in order to compete in rapidly advancing technological fields. Therefore, he argued, educational institutions should be provided with adequate facilities and technological equipment, while students ought to be prepared for a knowledge-based world alongside their conventional studies. Moreover, he underscored the need to improve educational infrastructure and the learning environment.

Finally, Rizvi asserted that BNP governments had taken initiatives to expand women's access to education. Referring to BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he said the government had proposed extending free education for women up to the honours level. In his view, a better-educated and more skilled female population would have positive implications for families, society and the state alike.
