The holy month of Ramadan in 2027 is likely to begin on February 8, with Eid al-Fitr expected to follow on March 10, according to astronomical calculations reported by Gulf News, although the dates remain provisional pending official crescent sightings.
The report indicates that Ramadan will arrive roughly 10 to 11 days earlier than in 2026, since the Islamic calendar is lunar and therefore approximately 10 to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian year. Should the new moon be sighted on the evening of February 7, Muslims could begin fasting on Monday, February 8, with the first Tarawih prayers potentially performed that night. Nevertheless, the beginning and end of the month will ultimately hinge on the official moon sighting in each country, and Ramadan may last either 29 or 30 days depending on the subsequent sighting.
The ninth month of the Islamic calendar holds profound religious significance for Muslims, as it marks the beginning of the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. During the month, believers abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset while placing particular emphasis on prayer, Quranic recitation, charity and self-discipline.

Meanwhile, preparations for Ramadan and Eid are expected to gather pace in Muslim-majority countries in the coming months. However, Bangladesh and other nations will announce their final dates in accordance with their respective official moon-sighting procedures.
