Opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said the people of Bangladesh are struggling and that the country itself is faring poorly, citing severe shortages of electricity and fertiliser as major sources of public hardship.

Speaking to a gathering at a local madrasa in Manikpotal village of Dhunat upazila in Bogura on Saturday morning, Shafiqur said the shortages had reached critical levels and were inflicting considerable suffering upon ordinary people. Earlier, he visited the grave of Abdul Malek, revered as the first martyr of the Islamic education movement, where he recited Fateha and offered prayers.
