According to a statement issued to the media on Monday, the new committee will serve a one-year term, with Salman Hossain as president, Hasibul Hasan as general secretary and Mustain Billah Habibi as organising secretary. The advisory council comprises NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, northern-region chief organiser Sarjis Alam, political council member Dr Mahmuda Mitu, Nusrat Tabassum and central organiser Arman Hossain. The statement says the council and central committee were constituted to preserve the spirit and achievements of the mass uprising and to work towards securing justice, dignity and rights for those killed or injured during the movement. Consequently, the new leadership is expected to concentrate on safeguarding the interests of July's victims while ensuring that the movement's stated objectives remain central to the organisation's activities.
