Bangladesh recorded its highest single-day tally of dengue hospitalisations this year, with 994 new patients admitted nationwide over the past 24 hours and three further deaths reported, according to a health bulletin issued on Monday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that the fresh admissions, logged between 8:00 am Sunday and the same hour Monday, pushed the cumulative case count for the year to 29,923, even as 862 patients were discharged following recovery over the same period, bringing total recoveries to 27,758. The latest fatalities raised the year's dengue death toll to 85, with August alone accounting for 31 deaths--the deadliest month so far--following 36 in July, 13 in June, a single fatality in May, and two apiece in January and February.

A regional breakdown of the past day's admissions showed Dhaka division bearing the heaviest burden, accounting for 381 of the new cases, followed by Khulna division with 215, Barisal with 117, Chattogram with 107, Rajshahi with 76, and Mymensingh with 71.
