The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has disclosed that it has unearthed several pieces of evidence indicating actor Ashraful Haque Don's possible involvement in the murder of film star Salman Shah, while alleging that he deliberately withheld crucial information over the course of a five-day remand.
Don was remanded to jail on Wednesday upon the conclusion of his five-day remand, following an application submitted by the CID's investigating officer. According to that application, Don conceded that he was acquainted with several of the absconding accused, yet he concealed pertinent information relating to the case. As a close confidant of Salman Shah, he was reportedly privy to numerous facets of the actor's life; investigators noted, however, that he furnished evasive responses when pressed on the circumstances of the death.
The CID stated that a meticulous analysis of Don's conduct and movements before, during and after Salman Shah's death had yielded several pieces of evidence pointing towards his complicity in the alleged murder. The agency is presently scrutinising and corroborating these findings; moreover, investigators characterised Don as a highly calculating individual who had deliberately withheld significant information throughout questioning.

The CID indicated that Don could be subjected to further questioning, subject to court approval, should the need arise, and contended that he ought to remain in custody until the investigation reaches its conclusion. Don was apprehended by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9 and subsequently remanded to jail. On August 20, investigators sought a seven-day remand, whereas the court, on August 27, granted a five-day period for interrogation.
