US tech firms eye $1bn investment in Bangladesh: Hajjaj

US semiconductor and artificial intelligence companies have expressed interest in investing more than $1 billion in Bangladesh, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said at a roundtable with senior executives in California's Silicon Valley on Monday.
The interest was discussed at a CEO and senior executives' roundtable titled "Technology, Investment and Strategic Partnerships for Bangladesh's Growth," held at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley in East Palo Alto. Hajjaj said Bangladesh has significant potential to attract international investment in AI and semiconductors, adding that technology transfer, skilled workforce development, research and innovation would be crucial to capitalising on the opportunity.
The discussions also covered AI and data infrastructure, semiconductor investment, technology transfer, talent development, research, innovation, trade expansion and strategic partnerships. Hajjaj said investment in AI, data infrastructure, semiconductor technologies and other high-tech industries could diversify Bangladesh's economy and create new employment opportunities.

The Bangladeshi delegation, meanwhile, included Prime Minister's Economic and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam and Prime Minister's Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications, IT and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad.
