DMP arrests 515 in 24 hours

Police apprehended 515 people and filed 47 cases across Dhaka in the past 24 hours during routine raids, seizing an array of firearms, narcotics and other contraband, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced.
In a press release issued by its Media and Public Relations Division on Saturday, September 19, the DMP said the operations had been conducted in different police station areas across the capital. Moreover, it confirmed that legal proceedings against those arrested were under way.
The breakdown of arrests reveals considerable variation between jurisdictions. Mirpur Division accounted for the largest share with 120 arrests, followed by Tejgaon with 92 and Motijheel with 76. Furthermore, 64 people were detained in Wari, 46 in Uttara, 37 in Gulshan, 34 in Lalbagh and 30 in Ramna, whereas the Detective Branch made 16 arrests.

During the raids, officers recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines and 10 rounds of ammunition, in addition to three machetes, five knives, 53 iron nails and the remnants of exploded cocktails. Similarly, the narcotics haul comprised 94.35kg of cannabis, 11,167 yaba tablets and 121.3 grams of heroin, while police also seized three bottles of foreign liquor, 20 cans of beer, a private car, five mobile phones and Tk 7,200 in cash.
