National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has declared that restoring law and order will be impossible while the current home minister remains in office, accusing him of failing to discharge his responsibilities and of making misleading statements on reform issues.

Speaking at a press conference at the party office in Dhaka on Monday, Nahid blamed the government, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed for what he described as a deterioration in law and order. He cited recent incidents, including vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur and attacks on content creator Salman Muqtadir's studio, as examples of administrative inaction. His allegations come amid recent statements from the home minister that law and order has improved and that action is being taken against criminals regardless of political affiliation.

Nahid also raised concerns over primary teacher recruitment, alleging that around 2,500 candidates had been excluded without clear evidence of political or criminal involvement. He called for appointments to be based on merit and examination results, while allowing proper verification where specific allegations exist. Furthermore, he said the NCP would support candidates who could demonstrate that they had been unfairly excluded, as recent reports show that those denied appointment letters have staged protests demanding their positions.
