Three killed in bus-CNG collision in Sreemangal

Three people were killed on Tuesday night when a passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, in yet another grim reminder of the perils besetting the country's highways.
The accident occurred at around 8:30 pm in the Lochona area, in front of the Satgaon Highway Police Station, when a bus belonging to Alom Asia Paribahan, travelling from Sreemangal towards Mirpur in Habiganj, ploughed into the three-wheeler. As a consequence, all three passengers of the auto-rickshaw sustained critical injuries; nevertheless, firefighters and local residents extricated them from the wreckage and rushed them to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival. Dr Naveed Raiyan bin Shahid, an emergency department physician, said the three were brought to the hospital at around 9 pm and were declared dead following examination.

One of the deceased was identified as Joy Singh, 23, son of Amrit Singh of Majdihi in Bhyrobganj Bazar, Sreemangal, whereas the identities of the other two victims remain unknown. Officer-in-Charge Mamunur Rahman of Sreemangal Satgaon Highway Police Station confirmed the deaths, stating that the bodies were recovered from the crash site and that Joy Singh had been identified through the national identity card found in his pocket. The bodies have since been kept at the health complex, and legal procedures, including autopsies, will be completed before they are handed over to the bereaved families.
