The government has directed all educational institutions across Bangladesh, including universities, to observe the holy occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi (SM) with due solemnity on 26 August, instructing them to organise special commemorative programmes marking the Prophet's birth.

The directive, published Thursday on the website of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), calls on institutions to celebrate the occasion with appropriate religious reverence, dignity and enthusiasm. As part of the mandated activities, institutions have been asked to arrange prayer gatherings, recitations of hamd and naat, poetry readings, cultural programmes and quiz competitions, alongside discussion sessions exploring the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SM).

These discussions are expected to address themes central to Islamic teaching, including peace, progress, harmony, tolerance, universal brotherhood, human rights and the dignity of women. The government has additionally rolled out a broader set of national initiatives to mark the day, requesting that Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media broadcast special programming, while newspapers have been asked to publish dedicated supplements commemorating the occasion.
