President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for greater emphasis on technical, engineering and vocational education to improve the quality of learning and equip students with skills suited to the rapidly evolving global job market.
He made the remarks on Tuesday during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim, at Bangabhaban. The President said conventional approaches to education needed to evolve in line with global progress, stressing that academic programmes should reflect the demands of both domestic and international labour markets. Moreover, he underscored the need to gradually move away from an education system that fails to translate qualifications into employment opportunities.
During the meeting, the PUST vice-chancellor briefed the President on the university's academic and administrative activities and future plans. Discussions subsequently covered improving educational standards, expanding research and introducing contemporary academic departments, while the need for additional land to support the university's infrastructure development was also raised.
