Opposition Leader and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, on Saturday criticised the Prime Minister, saying Bangladesh would be "embarrassed" if "incorrect and irresponsible remarks" continued to come from the premier's office.
Speaking at a grand rally organised by the 11-party alliance at the historic Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram, Dr. Shafiqur also said that those "who do not fear the gallows cannot be intimidated by the threat of imprisonment."
At the same event, Opposition Chief Whip and convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Nahid Islam, alleged that there were attempts to hand over Islami Bank to the S Alam Group, warning that "the people will no longer accept such moves."
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury said that the late Osman Hadi had stood for justice and fairness, adding that any failure by the BNP-led government to ensure accountability would be unacceptable.
