Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has denied allegations linking him to an alleged “kitchen cabinet” within the former interim government, saying he was never part of any internal policy-making circle.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Citizen Party office on Tuesday, Asif said recent speculation surrounding him was “completely baseless.”

The controversy emerged after former foreign affairs adviser Touhid Hossain claimed in a television interview that an influential inner circle had operated behind the scenes during the interim administration.

Asif also denied any involvement by his party in a controversial trade agreement signed with the United States, alleging that former national security adviser and current foreign minister Khalilur Rahman acted under the influence of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

He further accused BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman of backing the deal and said the current government has the authority to amend or cancel it if necessary.

The former sports adviser also criticised the recent Bangladesh Cricket Board councilor selection process, alleging that family influence, rather than merit, dominated the appointments.
