Prime Minister Tariq Rahman has instructed the Bangladesh Navy and Air Force to prioritize merit, skill, and honesty over political ideology and personal bias when promoting officers.

He gave these directions on Sunday (August 23) at the formal inauguration of the Navy and Air Force Selection Board 2026, held at the Bangladesh Air Force Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment.

The Prime Minister directed members of the selection board to emphasize professional competence, leadership qualities, discipline, integrity, loyalty, and overall job suitability when making promotion decisions.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Prime Minister Rahman remembered the martyrs who made ultimate sacrifices during the 1971 Liberation War, those killed in the 2024 student-led mass uprising, and those affected during various movements to establish democracy and civil rights.

He stated that the Bangladesh Navy and Air Force play vital roles in protecting the country's independence and sovereignty. Additionally, both forces contribute significantly to maintaining internal peace and stability, as well as assisting the civil administration during natural disasters.

Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Defense Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. A K M Shamsul Islam, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Khondokar Misbah Ul Aazim, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan.
