Newly appointed Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partha stated on Sunday that media freedom in Bangladesh had been severely restricted for the past 17 years.
Speaking to reporters on his first day in office at the Secretariat following an exchange of views with ministry officials, Partha emphasized the need to restore professionalism, responsibility, and independence to the press.
Partha highlighted that the media acts as a primary pillar of democracy. He stressed that while the ministry will enforce necessary rules and framework guidelines, it will refrain from imposing authoritarian control or censorship.

He praised the crucial contributions of the press during the July mass uprising, urging media outlets to continue playing a responsible role during this era of national transformation while upholding the history, traditions, and spirit of the Liberation War.
