A Dhaka court on Friday placed expelled Jubo Dal leader and former Hatirjheel thana convener Ferdous Ahmed Simon on four days' remand over an alleged Tk 50,000 extortion demand, assault and blank firing in the capital's Banglamotor area.
The Dhaka metropolitan magistrate's court also granted three days' remand each to three other accused, identified as Omar, Morshed and Md Shaon. According to police and the case proceedings, Simon and his associates allegedly confronted a man named Sohan in an alley north of Banglamotor on Thursday night. Sohan alleged that Simon demanded Tk 50,000, pointed a firearm at him and struck him on the head with its butt, leaving him injured.
Meanwhile, police said two blank shots were allegedly fired during the incident, prompting local residents to gather and confront the group before officers took four people into custody. Furthermore, the investigating officer had sought seven days' remand for each accused in order to question them, identify other suspected associates and recover the firearm allegedly used.

Moreover, police said they were also investigating allegations of extortion and other criminal activities linked to Simon, although these claims remain unproven. Nevertheless, the court granted him four days and the other three accused three days each, and the outcome of the questioning will largely determine whether additional suspects are named.
