Six more people have succumbed to dengue in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, pushing this year's death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 245, according to the latest figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

The DGHS data also show that 1,948 new patients were admitted to hospitals during the same period, raising the cumulative number of hospitalisations to 79,620 since the beginning of the year. Furthermore, the geographical spread of the new cases indicates that the disease is far from confined to a single locality, as the outbreak continues to exert considerable pressure on healthcare facilities across multiple regions.

Chattogram Division recorded the highest number of new admissions at 343, followed by 320 in Dhaka Division outside the city corporations, 248 in Khulna, 212 in Barishal and 211 in Rajshahi. Meanwhile, Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations logged 210 and 189 cases respectively, whereas Mymensingh, Rangpur and Sylhet reported 110, 99 and 14 cases in that order.

On a more encouraging note, 73,890 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far this year, including 1,882 who received discharge certificates in the latest 24-hour period. Nevertheless, the persistent rise in both admissions and fatalities underscores the enduring public-health burden posed by dengue, and consequently the health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely nationwide.
