Six more dengue deaths push annual toll to 239

Six more people have died of dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,942 new patients have been hospitalised, pushing the country's dengue death toll this year to 239, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest figures, released by the DGHS on Tuesday, cover the 24-hour period from 8 am Monday to 8 am Tuesday. Of the six fatalities, three were reported in Rajshahi Division, while one each occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation and other areas of Dhaka Division. September has consequently emerged as the deadliest month of the year, with 142 dengue-related deaths recorded so far.

Among the newly hospitalised patients, 178 were admitted in Dhaka North and 229 in Dhaka South, while 371 were admitted outside the city corporations. Chattogram recorded the highest number outside Dhaka with 301 admissions, followed by Khulna with 264, Barishal with 213, Rajshahi with 197, Mymensingh with 120, Rangpur with 56 and Sylhet with six.

Since January 1, a total of 77,672 dengue patients have been hospitalised, of whom 72,008 have recovered, while 5,425 remain under treatment.
