Eight more dengue deaths push toll to 219 this year

Eight more people have died of dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,432 new patients have been hospitalised, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday, raising the country's dengue death toll this year to 219.
Of the latest deaths, one occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation, while two were reported from areas outside city corporations in Dhaka Division and five in Khulna Division. The DGHS, meanwhile, revised its earlier report, which had initially recorded three dengue deaths during the same period.

Since January 1, a total of 71,536 dengue patients have been hospitalised nationwide, according to the DGHS. So far, 66,251 patients have recovered and been discharged, underscoring the continuing strain on healthcare facilities amid the seasonal outbreak.
