Dengue infects 955 in 24 hours as Sept. toll reaches 114

Two people died of dengue and 955 new patients were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the 24 hours to Friday, raising the year’s death toll to 211, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Both victims were women receiving treatment at hospitals in Dhaka North and South city areas.

From January 1 to September 25, a total of 70,104 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide, with 64,827 discharged after treatment. September has emerged as the deadliest month so far, with 114 deaths recorded in just 25 days, compared with 43 in August and 36 in July.

Dhaka South recorded 133 new admissions and Dhaka North 76, while Chattogram division reported the highest number outside the capital, with 246 patients. Khulna recorded 130 admissions, followed by Barishal and Rangpur with 44 each, Mymensingh with 37 and Sylhet with four. Public health experts have urged stronger mosquito-control measures and greater public vigilance to prevent stagnant water around homes.
