Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain on Thursday granted a fresh four-day remand for Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam in a case filed over the alleged abetment of his second wife Morium Khatun’s suicide. Police had sought seven more days of remand after completing his previous four-day questioning.
Police said further interrogation was necessary to uncover the circumstances surrounding Morium’s death and establish the facts of the case. Her hanging body was recovered from a flat at the NAM Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on September 20, after which her father, Md Masum Billah, filed the case against Gazi Nazrul, his first wife Maksuda Begum and brother-in-law Obaidur Rahman.

During Thursday’s hearing, the prosecution said investigators had not obtained the expected information during the initial questioning and sought further remand. The defence opposed the plea and sought bail, citing the MP’s heart condition and ongoing treatment, while denying his involvement in the allegations. The court, after hearing both sides, granted four days of additional remand.
