A case has been filed over the alleged assault and harassment of Bangladesh national team spinner Nayeem Hasan by individuals identifying themselves as Detective Branch (DB) personnel, while three police members, including a sub-inspector, have been temporarily withdrawn from duty.
The case was filed on Saturday morning by the cricketer's brother, Sabbir Alam, naming Khulshi Police Station Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam, Constable Russell, and police source Sohel as accused. The complaint includes allegations of physical assault and attempted abduction.
According to Nayeem, he was stopped near the Lalkhan Bazar flyover on Friday night while returning home from Chattogram airport after playing in the Premier League in Dhaka. He alleged that he was forcibly taken into a vehicle by men claiming to be DB officers and was assaulted despite identifying himself as a national cricketer before being taken to Khulshi Police Station.
Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman confirmed that the case had been accepted and that the three accused individuals had been immediately withdrawn pending investigation.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Md. Amirul Islam said the incident was under investigation and assured that legal action would be taken against those found responsible, adding that misconduct or abuse within the police force would not be tolerated.
