The parliamentary seat of BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti was declared vacant on Thursday following her resignation, the Parliament Secretariat announced in a formal notification that cited Article 67(2) of the Constitution.

The notification stated that seat No. 323, designated women's seat-23, became vacant on October 1, and it was signed by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan. Furthermore, copies were dispatched to the Cabinet Division, the Election Commission Secretariat and other relevant offices for necessary action. Moreover, Mishti had submitted her resignation letter to Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Thursday afternoon, after Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman directed her to step down amid allegations concerning an attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur. Nevertheless, those allegations remain subject to investigation.

Meanwhile, Rule 177 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament stipulates that a lawmaker wishing to resign must submit a written, signed letter addressed to the Speaker. Once the letter reaches the Speaker, the resignation takes effect, and the seat falls vacant in accordance with Article 67(2) of the Constitution.
