Legal action will be taken against recently resigned reserved-seat MP Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti if investigators substantiate the allegations of her involvement in the attack and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Thursday, adding that the ruling party would also take organisational action should her complicity be established.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, the minister stated that a chargesheet would be filed on the basis of the investigation, emphasising that the government was treating criminal acts strictly as crimes, irrespective of the identity or political affiliation of the perpetrators. Furthermore, he asserted that the authorities were taking measures to curb criminal activity and urged the public to report any shortcomings in law enforcement. Regarding the Radda incident, he reiterated that an impartial inquiry was under way and that no one would be spared if their involvement were proven, whereas police have already arrested several suspects in connection with the attack, looting and demolition of the health centre.

Turning to the recruitment process for the 49th BCS special education cadre, Salahuddin disclosed that appointment gazettes had so far been issued for 611 of the 668 candidates on the final list. Of the remainder, 57 were excluded for reasons including failure to submit certificates, being declared medically unfit or failing to report within the stipulated period. Nevertheless, he cautioned that the process was not yet complete and that a further gazette would be issued for the remaining candidates.

Moreover, the minister underscored that no applicant would be denied appointment solely on account of political identity. He characterised candidate verification as a routine procedure, although he added that those excluded because of serious offences would be afforded an opportunity to apply. Consequently, the government appears keen to present the recruitment exercise as impartial, even as it continues to face scrutiny over the integrity of public-sector appointments.
