Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has directed police to deploy intelligence-led operations against alleged collaborators of the banned Awami League, pledging rewards to officers who secure arrests, as he used Saturday's Police Week 2026 medal ceremony in Dhaka to sharpen the government's rhetoric against former ruling-party loyalists.

Addressing senior officials, the minister branded his targets "fascist forces and Awami League collaborators," while calling for tighter intelligence coordination among agencies. He further warned that anyone attempting to destabilise the country would face legal action.

On repatriation, Salahuddin confirmed that Bangladesh had formally invoked its extradition treaty to seek the return of convicted fugitives, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Those who returned voluntarily, however, would be dealt with through due legal process rather than summary punishment.

The ceremony also had a commemorative dimension, as the minister awarded BPM and PPM medals to 98 police personnel, blending policy announcement with customary recognition of service.
