Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally distributed appointment letters to 74 relatives of victims of enforced disappearance and those killed or wounded in last year's July uprising, formalising a gesture of state recognition towards families who have long sought accountability.
The ceremony, held on Saturday at the Korobi Hall of the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, saw the premier hand letters directly to ten recipients, including relatives of several prominent disappearance victims and July uprising casualties. Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, who oversaw proceedings, confirmed that the remaining appointments were distributed separately. Several recipients expressed gratitude while reiterating demands for the prosecution of those responsible for the disappearances, underscoring that the gesture, however welcome, has not eclipsed calls for justice.
