Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir has directed field-level police officers to ensure tight security during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations and take strict legal action against drug dealers, terrorists, extortionists and juvenile offenders regardless of their political affiliations, while also instructing police to remain vigilant against rumours and misinformation on social media that could undermine communal harmony.
The directives were issued at the monthly crime review meeting for August 2026, held at Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday and chaired by Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman, with metropolitan police commissioners, range deputy inspectors general and police superintendents attending virtually from across the country. Fakir called for comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and festive Durga Puja, instructing police units to prepare area-specific security plans, strengthen cyber monitoring and ensure proper use of body-worn cameras by officers on field duty.

He also ordered intensified action against juvenile gangs based on intelligence-led operations, directing officers to investigate whether influential individuals or political patrons were backing such groups. The meeting, moreover, reviewed crime trends and the progress of investigations into robbery, dacoity, murder, rape and abduction cases, while stressing greater professionalism, accountability, execution of outstanding arrest warrants and stronger community and beat policing.
