Three more people have succumbed to measles and measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh within the past 24 hours, pushing the cumulative death toll to 1,002 since March 15, while 1,188 patients were hospitalised during the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported.
In a press release issued by its control room on Wednesday, the DGHS disclosed that 1,119 people had presented with measles-related symptoms over the preceding 24 hours. Meanwhile, the total number of measles cases recorded between March 15 and September 9 stood at 167,580, a tally that includes 69 laboratory-confirmed cases reported during the latest 24-hour window; correspondingly, the cumulative number of confirmed infections has now reached 19,904.
Since the outbreak's onset on March 15, a total of 147,393 individuals exhibiting measles-related symptoms have been admitted to hospitals nationwide, of whom 141,819 have since recovered and been discharged, according to the DGHS. Taken together, these figures indicate that the outbreak continues to exert considerable strain on the country's healthcare infrastructure, with new symptomatic cases being reported on a persistent, largely unabated basis.

Nevertheless, the disparity between the vast number of suspected cases and the comparatively modest share that have been laboratory-confirmed underscores an ongoing diagnostic and surveillance challenge; consequently, health officials face mounting pressure to accelerate vaccination coverage and strengthen case-confirmation capacity before the toll climbs further.
