16 die of Covid-19, fresh cases 718 in 24 hours: DGHS

A total of 16 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of deaths has now reached 7,819 and the death rate stands at 1.49 percent.

At least 849 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 524,020, added the release.

A total of 14,363 samples were tested at 194 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.

Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 5.00 percent tested positive, while 15.48 percent cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, the release added.

Among the total infections, 89.44 percent patients have recovered, while 1.49 percent died so far since the first COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8.
