Ad-din hospital to provide 8 million tk to each family

A decision has been made to provide 8 million (80 lakh) BDT in compensation to the family of each of the six newborns who tragically passed away at the capital's Ad-din Medical College Hospital.
Senior Supreme Court Advocate Shishir Monir shared this information on Sunday, June 7. He stated that the joint decision was reached following discussions between the hospital authorities and the families of the deceased children.
He further mentioned that the benefits and facilities previously announced by the hospital authorities will remain intact, alongside the 8 million BDT compensation for each family.
The incident came to light on May 27, the day before Eid-ul-Adha, when the deaths of the six newborns at Ad-din Hospital were made public, sparking widespread discussion and anxiety across the country.

Following the incident, Dr. Nahid Yasmin, Director General of the Ad-din Foundation, explained during an official briefing that six newborns in the post-operative ward suddenly developed respiratory distress and were immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Upon arrival, two infants were found dead, while the remaining four were placed on ventilator support in critical condition.
She stated that despite the doctors' utmost efforts, all six newborns ultimately passed away.
The incident has raised numerous public questions regarding the hospital's medical management, patient safety, and accountability. It is reported that relevant authorities have already launched an investigation to determine the actual cause of the tragedy.
