The High Court extended BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail one year in an arson case filed in Cumilla.

An HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mojibur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday (August 20).

Deputy Attorney General Dr. Bashir Ullah and Khaleda Zia’s lawyer barrister Kaiser Kamal confirmed about the HC order.

The same bench granted six months of bail to Khaleda Zia on March 6.

A Cumilla court rejected her bail plea in the case on February 4.

On February 3 in 2015, eight people were killed and several others injured in a petrol bomb attack on a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district during the BNP-led alliance’s movement.

Two cases were filed against Khaleda Zia over the incident.

Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8 of 2018.
