2 more die of dengue


The unofficial death toll reported went over 82

A man and four-year-old boy have died of dengue in Khulna and Laxmipur districts.

In Laxmipur, a four-year-old boy died of dengue on Monday night on his way to Noakhali General Hospital.

The deceased, Parash, was the son of Kamruzzaman of Daspara area in Kamalnagar upazila.

Parash’s uncle Md Ibrahim said his nephew was diagnosed with dengue at Fair Diagnostic Pathology Centre in Laxmipur town on August 10, reports UNB.

Dr Morshed Alam Hiru, child specialist of Laxmipur Sadar Hospital, said he suggested the guardians to shift Parash to Noakhali General Hospital.

“He died around 10pm while being taken there,” he added.

Over 148 dengue patients were admitted to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital in the last 18 days.

In Khulna, a man named Rasel, 36, died of dengue at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH)

Rasel was a cleaner at Dhaka's Ramna Park and hailed from Narikelbari village in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj.

He died around 2:30pm on Monday.

Rasel got infected by dengue in Dhaka and returned back home with fever. He was admitted to KMCH around 3:20pm on Sunday.

Director of KMCH, ATM Monjur Morshed, confirmed his death.

Currently, 123 dengue patients are admitted in KMCH.

Dengue infection persistent across Bangladesh

A total of 2,093 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh during the last 24 hours till Monday, said a government statement.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier aedes mosquito.

A total of 842 patients have been admitted to different public and private hospitals and clinics in the capital and 1,251 others in different hospitals outside of Dhaka, according to the record of the emergency and operation center and the control room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

At present, a total of 8,006 dengue patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals across Bangladesh.

According to records, a total of 40 people have died of dengue while 35,225 have been discharged from hospitals after taking treatment since January last.

However, the unofficial death toll reported is over 82.
