Detective Branch (DB) of Police has submitted a chargesheet to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday afternoon after investigating the murder case of Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
It is learned that investigative officers submitted the chargesheet accusing 25 students of BUET — all of them have been charged. And there are 30 witnesses.
The chargesheet mentioned that according to the interrogation of the accused, the confessional statement given by the court and the information found in the investigation — indicated that ‘Abrar was murdered in suspicion of Shibir’. The accused took part directly and indirectly in the murder, according to investigation-related sources.
Of the 25 accused charged, 21 of them are currently in jail. Of these, 16 are in the case details and 5 are out of the case details. The three accused are still absconding.
It is learned that before giving the chargesheet of such a big incident, the investigating officers took IGP Dr. Mohammad Jabed Patwari’s permission.
Abrar’s blood-soaked clothes, written communication of the accused in Facebook messenger, other technical contacts, CCTV footage of the Sher-e-Bangla Hall — are also submitted as evidence along with the chargesheet. What is the crime, whose crime, and how much of the crime of the accused — are also mentioned in the chargesheet.
The accused are —Mehedi Hassan Russell, Muhtasim Fuad, Anik Sarkar, Mehedi Hassan Rabin, Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Moniruzzaman Monir, Meftahul Islam Jion, Amit Saha, Majedul Islam, Md. Mujahidul, Md. Tanveer Ahmed, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Md. Zisan, Md. Akash, Shamim Billah, Md. Sadat, Md. Tanim, Md. Morshed, Moaz Abu Huraira, Muntasir Al Jemi, Mizanur Rahman, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna, SM Mahmood Setu.
The names of Munna, Amit Saha, Mizan, Rafat and Setu were not in the case details. However, the three accused Zisan, Morshed and Ehteshamul Tanim are still on the run, said the investigating-related officers.
The eight accused in the case have given confessional statements in the court. They are — Nazmus Sadat, Ifti Mosharraf, Meftahul Islam Jion, Anik Sarkar, Mujahidur Rahman, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir and Maniruzzaman Monir.
Earlier, on October 6 night, Abrar Fahad was called from his room of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and beaten to death by BUET Branch Chhatra League activists. The next day, his father, Barkatullah, filed a lawsuit against 19 accused.
