Motorcyclist killed in crash on Mayor Hanif flyover

The accident left two others injured

A motorcyclist was killed and two others injured in a road crash on the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dhaka in the wee hours of Thursday.

The accident took place near a turn, adjacent to the office of Rapid Action Battalion 3 and Rajdhani Super Market in Tikatuli area, on the flyover around 1:45am.

Two of the victims were men and the third a woman. Their identities could not be known immediately

This correspondent, along with several others from another vehicle, found the three motorcycle riders lying in a jumbled state on the flyover after taking the aforementioned turn.

The man who was driving the motorcycle was killed on the spot. The two injured were rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) right away.

The left hand of the other male passenger appeared to be broken and hemorrhaging, while the woman suffered minor injuries.

After one of the rescuers informed authorities through emergency service hotline 999, first responders and officials from Wari police station arrived at the scene very soon and took steps to take the body to DMCH.

However, it could not be confirmed whether the accident occurred after the motorcycle was hit by another vehicle or it crashed after its tyres slipped on the asphalt.

The motorcycle was seen at least 20-30 yards away from where the victims were found lying.

Police and flyover maintenance staff at the scene said it would be possible to determine how the accident occurred after checking the footage of the flyover's CCTV cameras.
