Surprising everyone, Education Minister Dipu Moni and Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel had lunch with the students.

On Sunday, Dr. Dipu Moni inaugurated the ‘Mid Day Meal’ of 14 schools in four districts at a video conference at Agragami Girls High School and College in Sylhet. Later, they had lunch with the students.

Of the inaugurated 14 schools, there are two secondary schools in Sylhet, three in Moulvibazar, four in Habiganj and five in Sunamganj.  

At the inauguration ceremony, the Education Minister said that the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education launched the ‘Mid Day Meal’ under the School Feeding Policy after the government’s Directorate of Primary Education.

“Up to Tk 20 can be taken from interested students for every meal to make children school-oriented. Healthy cooking places and cooking manpower will be provided to the establishment.”

Sylhet Regional Deputy Director Office of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education sources said that ‘Mid Day Meal’ program has been launched in 622 secondary education institutes in Sylhet region so far. Of these, there are 262 schools in Sylhet district, 68 in Sunamganj, 116 in Moulvibazar district and 176 in Habiganj district. As a result, 2 lakh 70 thousand students are benefiting.

Among others, Sohrab Hossain, senior secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed, secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj, Awami League’s central organizational secretary, Shafique Rahman, general secretary of district Awami League were present at the inauguration.
