Feni: A Jubo League leader was hacked to death over establishing supremacy in Feni. There are allegations that the followers of former ruling Awami League MP Joynal Hazari were involved in the murder.
Injured 28-year-old Golam Rasul Manik succumbed at Comilla Medical College Hospital Thursday afternoon while underwent treatment there. He was vice-president of Baligaon union Jubo League and the son of Md Shahjahan Saju of village Kuruchia under Baligaon union in Feni Sadar upazila. Manik was a follower of Nizam Hazari MP of Feni-2 constituency.
Party sources said Golam Rasul Manik was sitting at a tea stall at village Kuruchia at about 2pm on Thursday. Suddenly, a group of eight armed men led by Joynal Hazari's cadres Golam Mowla Mister and Azimur Rahman appeared there and left the place boarding CNG autorickshaws firing several shots at Manik. Critically injured Manik was first admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital where he dies at about 4pm.
Feni district Jubo League joint convener Sushen Chandra Shil said Manik was the vice-president of Baligaon union of Jubo League.
Feni Model Police Station OC Mahbub Morshed confirmed about the murder of Golam Rasul Manik, saying that police were trying to arrest the killers.
